The seeds were sown to establish a new cricket club at Blackmans Bay in August 1972. Germination was quick and reliable and the Blackmans Bay District Cricket Club was formed at a public meeting on the 29th September 1972. Attendance at the meeting was poor, however there were numerous expressions of community support and interest for the foundation of a cricket club. It was through the enthusiasm of the organisers and their knowledge and faith in wider public support that the Club became a reality.
Two A grade teams were entered in the Channel Cricket Association for the 1972/73 season and the Club applied to the Kingborough council to lease Sherburd Park Oval. Approval to lease the oval was soon granted. We now had a Club, a competition and a home.
Since this date BBDCC has seen numerous premierships in all grades. Women's teams, former state representatives and junior cricketers have all played under the Blackmans Bay banner. We now look to the future to build a club that those who played in the inaugural season would be proud of.
