Gordon Kerr joined the Sharks for the 2005/2006 season from University Cricket Club as a playing Assistant Coach.  Gordo first appeared in the Channel competition as a member of the Woodbridge Cricket Club, making his A grade debut as a 14 year old in 1999, and playing against one or two of his current team mates.  Although young in years, Gordo came to the Sharks with a wealth of experience having been a member of the Australian U/17 team, an Australian U/19 squad member and a regular first grade cricketer in the TCA.

With an opportunity to show his talents with both bat and ball Gordo had a stellar debut season, making over 650 runs and taking 35 wickets.  His highlights for the year included a century against the Kingston Crows, 5/25 against Huonville and leading the on field charge into the Grand Final in 05/06.  He also ate a truckload of pies and drank numerous beers and CC & dry’s from the fridge behind Twig’s bar.

As a result (of his cricket, not the beers) the awards also flowed with a clean sweep of the club A grade batting and bowling averages and securing the Allan Batchelor Medal for the A grade Best and Fairest player for 2005/2006.  The Huon and Channel Cricket Association also awarded him the A grade Points Award and he narrowly missed out on the Association Best and Fairest when he didn’t poll a vote in the final round, despite a good performance in a winning side, falling one vote short.  During the Australian winter, Gordo took up an opportunity to play cricket in England for the Norwich Cricket Club, a member of the East Anglian Premier Cricket League.
Gordo has shown talent in other fields as well.

He was a great loss to the Fish Processing industry when he was forced to resign from his job to go to England in 2006, prompting Tassal to create the “Scaly Kerr”, an award to be given to the most prolific processor of the month.  He lists his favourite hobbies as maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, swapping underwear with his team mates, having his car stolen, getting to know the families of opposition players, modern dance and long walks on the beach.
